Flash flood

Flooded road in front of DTII

I never thought that the heavy rain would cause a flash flood around the university. Only realised while I was driving from CEC parking lot to the D1 parking area. I thought the water was about at ankle level. Quite worrying as I was driving my Kelisa. May got stuck in the middle of the flood. I thought the previous big flood early 2007 was not as bad as this. I mean the water rose so quickly. I guessed the university’s development project might have a hand in, the drainage might have been affected and consequently water in the drainage did not have a smooth flow. Luckily the heavy drain lasted only about 20 minutes. Otherwise, things could have gone worse.

It’s heavy rain outside. Could hear wind blowing and whistling as well. Kind or eerie inside this room. Remind me of those horror movies. Just hope there’ll be no electricity blackout in this building otherwise I will be rushing out of here.

Final presentation

Posted in Uncategorized on April 10, 2008 by azmial

My students finally completed their final presentation this morning. They still need to learn more about doing research and presenting the report. That’s one thing about teaching at university. I did not get to meet my students that long compared to when I was teaching in school. Here, 3 months of lectures and tutorials and that’s it. Next semester it will be some new batches of students. One of my last few advises to my students before we parted ways was for them to continue improving their English.

Prof Ian Pashby

Prof Ian Pashby presented about University of Nottingham

Despite the poor audience turnout, Prof Pashby still continued with his presentation about the university. Prior to attending the talk, I was in a quandary of which one to go to. At about the same time PPKK also hosted a publication roadshow by the Pusat Penerbit at the Language Lab. After the talk, I thought I had made the right choice. There were only 5 UTHM staff at DK1. I guess I was one of the people who saved the day. Otherwise  there would be fewer people. Mahadi Sibon of PEKA who emceed the talk, admitted that he was quite embarassed with the situation. The talk lasted for about 1 hour and during the QnA session I posed several questions with regard to study opportunities at Nottingham.

There will be a talk by Prof Ian Pashby of University of Nottingham 2.30 pm at DK1. I would love to hear what are the opportunities. Considering of doing my PhD locally. Univ of Nottingham has a branch in Semenyih and it would be one of the options available.

Edublog debut

I was searching some information for my BALL research when I stumbled upon Edublog. After the simple registration, I realized that the cpanel appearance resembled Wordpress. Was this what people called ’spinoff’? Anyway, I’m still searching for the special features that made Edublog a blog service for education. I mean in what way does it differ from the usual Wordpress.
